illmod 600 is an impregnated joint sealing tape for use in a wide variety of movement joints and other applications. Weather tight against the most severe combinations of wind and rain. It satisfies most expectations as an external weather seal in building and civil engineering apllications. With full BBA approval the product has been extensively tested and has a proven reputation across both the UK and Europe (cert.96/3309).
Features
- 30mm (h) x joint width of 17-32mm x 4m (l)
- Provides thermal and acoustic insulation values that improve the occupant comfort and experience
- Will resist wind driven rain up to 113 km/h wind (600 Pa) without the addition of sealant
- Breathable material allows for vapour diffusion, minimising the risk of condensation at the window frame
- Friction fit and pressure seal ensure the product continually expands and contracts to accommodate movement whilst still sealing the joints. Does not rely on a chemical bond like traditional sealants
- Self-adhesive on one side aids contractor installation and holds the tape in place until the tape expands
- Can be painted with commercially available acrylic paint to provide the client with the desired aesthetics
- Can be installed during inclement weather like rain and cold temperatures
- Proven wind driven rain resistance since 1965 ensures long term performance
Applications
illmod 600 is the premier joint sealing material both for new construction and remedial applications. Typical applications for illmod 600 include:
- Precast concrete joints sealing
- Vertical expansion joints
- Brickwork joints
- Window sealing
- Door seals
- Repair of damaged joints
- Alternative to wet sealing and backer rod
- Primary seal in window sub-head/sub-sill tracks
- Roofing metal decks
- Metal panels
Instructions
- Measure the width and depth of the joints that are to be sealed
- Select the appropriate size of illmod 600
- Cut off the first 5 cm of the roll and discard
- Cut the length needed off the roll, leaving an extra 13mm for every 1 meter of length
- Seal the vertical joints starting at the bottom and work up, butting each new piece into the previous
- Apply a liberal amount of Dymonic FC, Dymonic 100 or TREMglaze 25 between the butt joints. Use a putty knife or spatula to ease installation if needed
- If the self-adhesive backing is too sticky it can be temporarily neutralised by spraying the illmod 600 with water
- For aesthetic purposes it may be useful to recess the seal 2 - 3mm below the surface of the joint
- If the joint is wet and the self-adhesive backing becomes ineffective, use the shims to hold the seal in place until it expands enough to support itself
- Illmod 600's expansion rate is relative to the temperature outside. If working on very cold days, a hair dryer or heat gun can be used to accelerate the expansion rate. If working on hot days, storing the illmod 600 rolls in an esky will slow down their expansion rate, giving the applicator more time to properly place them in the joint
