Backing Rods, Backing Rods
A round, flexible, closed-cell polyethylene foam with an exterior skin used as a backing and thickness control device for elastomeric and other cold-applied sealants. Backing Rod becomes an integral part of the joint into which it is installed. Available sizes 6mm to 50mm. The backing rod should be installed allowing sealant to be tooled to a proper joint width to depth ratio. Backing rod should be sized ~25% larger than the joint opening, to provide sufficient backpressure during sealant installation. Closed-cell polyethylene backing rod may outgas if punctured during installation, requiring it to be left for 20 minutes before application of the sealant.
